Janet, a Tucson Arizona native, has a beautiful gallery and studio just west of the University of Arizona which showcases her ceramics as well as her two-dimensional art. Please stop by and see how it is created!
"Clay as Art" is my goal and inspiration. The human figure, my life's experiences, animals and images from nature fascinate my imagination; smooth surfaces, texture, movement, and contrasts are often incorporated. I bring my many years of experience to every lump of clay; to shape from nothing, a piece which lives beyond myself with dignity and pride. My intention as a potter was and is a spiritual one, to be one with the earth.
Living in Portugal in 1969 changed my life; I fell in love with art, traveling to cities all over Europe and spending my time in art museums, large & small. Ceramics and drawing have been my focus and life ever since. I opened my business, Sabino Stoneware Pottery in 1972, after an apprenticeship with Harry Holl in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. I founded Romero House Potters, Inc. located on the Tucson Museum of Art campus. I actually began teaching ceramics at TMA in 1975 and when the museum informed me they were closing the studio, RHP was formed. It is now a 501(C)3 non-profit. I also built our large six-foot catenary arch car kiln (twice) where I load and fire my work and that of my students.
